Among the new music releases today is a live concert album I mixed for Jon McLaughlin.
Jon McLaughlin – Live @ House of Blues, is featured this week on iTunes.
Jon is great singer/songwriter and piano player from Indiana with a few hits under his belt. Some of the better songs off of this album are “Human” and “Beautiful Disaster,” the latter of which you’d have to have been sequestered in space, not to have ever heard it before. All of the songs come off great live and were recorded in a smaller, more intimate concert setting.
Don’t be a cheap bastard and go buy a song or two, or better yet the whole album, and support an independent songwriter.
Peace!
Another shameless plug for the Jill Scott album.
The album is featured this week in the “new music” section on iTunes. Go check it out here.

He took the geek out of the computer and put that computer into the hands of the artist.

Here is another Jill Scott release which features a single, live track I mixed.
“And I Heard… (Do You Understand)” appears as the last track on “Hidden Beach Presents: The Original Jill Scott – From the Vault, Vol. 1 (Deluxe Version)”. The album is available on iTunes and at fine retailers everywhere.
Check out this live Jill Scott concert I mixed for Hidden Beach Recordings which has just been released on iTunes. Mixed in 5.1 and shot in Widescreen Format, here are the details:
Jill Scott and her band hit the stage at the Legendary House of Blues on the Sunset Strip performing tunes from her now classic Hidden Beach debut “Who Is Jill Scott?,” her sophomore disc “Beautifully Human,” and “The Real Thing.” Includes a rockin’ rendition of “The Real Thing,” the romantic “Is It The Way,” the anthemic “Hate on Me,” plus “Whatever,” “Whenever You’re Around,” and her signature “He Loves Me.”
They also have an audio only version of the concert for sale here: Jill Scott – Live @ House of Blues – Sunset Strip
More shots of Jim Beam for all my friends…
Yeah, I know, another one. It looks like I have a drinking problem, but it keeps me young and refreshed! Another mix for the Jim Beam Music Series is available for your viewing and listening pleasure. This time it’s The Fray, live from The Fillmore in San Francisco. This was a fun one to mix so give it a listen.
Popcorn and whiskey go well together, saddle up and get along little doggie. And besides, The Fillmore always sounds good!
Another live concert video I mixed for the Jim Beam Live Music Series, featuring the Manchester Orchestra, is now available for your viewing pleasure.
See the EXCLUSIVE video from Manchester Orchestra’s Jim Beam® Live Music Series show at the Theatre of The Living Arts in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, May 14. This video is available for a limited time.

“Help
me
put me back
to
geth
er…” - Le Butcherettes
The thing about Le Butcherettes, as you watch their performance unfold, is you don’t feel it’s forced or choreographed, but spontaneous and completely natural. It feels like you are witnessing a catharsis that HAS to take place or some bad shit is going to happen.
This may seem out of left field, but it reminded me a lot of the first time I saw the Ramones play live. I’m aging myself here, but it was a year or so after their “Road To Ruin” album. Yeah, back then. I’m a geezer. I remember using a fake ID to enter the 18+ club, a Roadhouse style venue in the Northeast where I grew up. I went by myself because my friends were all chicken shit, and I had to see the Ramones live. The anxiety, the full assault of the Ramones front of house mixer just ripping everyone’s head off, the crowd pushing and sweating, I was experiencing something I’d never experienced before. It was controlled chaos, but with a tight musical performance to back it up.
Well, seeing Le Butcherettes perform last night at the Bootleg Theater reminded me of that early Ramones experience. It was totally genuine and powerful, forceful and reckless at times, but oh so lovely. I felt like I was witnessing something new and totally unique. Not because of the hair-cutting or shoe-throwing, but because of the explicit and raw vocal emotion of Teri ‘Gender Bender’ Suaréz, backed by a great rhythm section. (Yes, she cut off her bangs in the middle of a song, with pretty good technique, I might add.) Of course you’ve seen many musicians stage dive and get levitated above the crowd, but when Teri of Le Butcherettes does it, it feels like a baptism by music. This isn’t fast food influenced, cut-and-paste pop for Idol zombies. This is confrontational music with intelligent lyrics, full of metaphor, social commentary and soul searching.
I knew they could pull it off live, because of what I’d heard while mixing their live SXSW show for iTunes (see older post), but I had to go and see it for myself. The best part is witnessing, after the show, how truly thankful and appreciative the band are of their audience. Now I REALLY like this band. The show is definitely not over for Le Butcherettes, it is just warming up. Now go buy their record and support some great indie music.
